Our Story

Western Skies Farm is a 20-acre alfalfa hay operation located just outside Columbia Falls, Montana, in the beautiful Flathead Valley. We are dedicated to producing premium quality alfalfa hay using sustainable farming practices and modern equipment.

Our Operation

Our farm specializes in alfalfa hay production, utilizing the rich soils and favorable climate of northwestern Montana. We employ modern John Deere tractors and hay balers to ensure efficient harvesting while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Alfalfa Hay Production

Alfalfa is known as the "Queen of Forages" for good reason. Our alfalfa hay provides exceptional nutritional value with high protein content (typically 18-22%), making it ideal for dairy cattle, horses, and other livestock. We carefully time our harvests to maximize both yield and nutritional quality, typically cutting 2-3 times per growing season.

Our alfalfa fields benefit from Montana's long summer days and cool nights, which help concentrate nutrients in the plants. We use sustainable farming practices including crop rotation and soil testing to maintain the health of our land for future generations.

Location & Climate

Situated near Columbia Falls, Montana, our farm benefits from the pristine environment of the Flathead Valley. The area's clean air, pure water, and fertile soil create ideal conditions for growing nutritious alfalfa hay.

Columbia Falls is located in Flathead County, just 8 miles from Glacier National Park. Our farm sits at approximately 3,100 feet elevation, providing excellent drainage and a climate perfect for alfalfa production. The Flathead Valley's unique microclimate, with warm days and cool nights, helps our alfalfa develop deep root systems and high nutritional content.

The area receives adequate rainfall during the growing season, supplemented by snowmelt from the surrounding mountains, ensuring our crops have consistent moisture without over-saturation. This natural irrigation system contributes to the exceptional quality of our hay.
